When I moved from North Caldwell, New Jersey, to Dubuque 25 years ago, Mario’s was the first restaurant I visited. After a wonderful dinner that was just like the Italian food I grew up on; Mario came to the table and in his big, booming voice said, “How was’a your’a dinner?” I jokingly answered, “mezzo e mezzo,” which means “half and half” in Italian and is a way of saying good but maybe not so much. Mario looked at me for a few seconds and then said, “Ahh, go back’a East!”

Absolutely amazing experience at Mario’s while we were in town last weekend! We had the Chicken Parmesan and Beef Ravioli and absolutely loved both! Great service, reasonable prices, and cozy atmosphere!
My daughter said this is a cozy restaurant! Atmosphere was great, wonderful home cooking!
Wonderful place for couples or larger groups. Family like atmosphere. Bar service exceeds expectations and has be equal in Dubuque.
It Is ALWAYS a wonderful experience at Marios. It's a popular place so you may need reservations if you dont want to wait. Most are willing to go and wait as the food is fresh, home made and delicious! Very busy staff but they are always pleasant and friendly. Love this place!!

Loved the calzone. I have a tomato allergy, so I had limited options. Went with a group. The sweet owner came to greet us at the table.
Had a fun date night here! Everyone was friendly and the atmosphere was a real vibe. Food was solid too.

We have eaten here many times. The sauces are authentic as is the old italian atmosphere. I had a pizza with dried tomatoes, balsamic vinegar, and more. The Antipasto is to die for order with Chianti wine.
One of our favorite places for a night out when we're after something Italian. Our go-to is always the panzerotti, and there is always enough to split one between both of us. The garlic bread is fantastic,the antipasto is perfection, the chocolate martini is to die for, and we always get one of Angelina's cannolis to take home for later!
The definition of old school cool! This place is straight out of Little Italy in 1960 but thankfully without all the smoking. The food portions are huge (just like your Italian grandmother insists), it taste great but is unpretentious, and all a great value. I always insist to stop whenever we are driving through Dubuque and recommend the same for everyone else!
We tried Mario's Italian Restaurant for the first time this week. It is a old school neighborhood feel, with the most delicious Italian food. I had the Veal Cutlet Parmigiana with spaghetti. The veal was very tender and in delicious sauce. My wife ordered the Mario Panzerotti, which was plentiful and also very delicious!! Highly recommend giving it a try next time you're in Dubuque.
One of our favorite places for almost 30 years. Mario’s daughter, Lydia made our anniversary dinner extra special with a complimentary tiramisu and gelato to share. Some of the 100% authentic homemade Italian dishes you must try: Mario’s Panzi, the Sicilian salad with pizza bread, Manhattan clam chowder, Chicken parm, tiramisu…the bar: espresso martini, Bloody Mary and Wisconsin style old fashioned. Do not settle for chain restaurant Italian. Go to Mario’s!
New to the area. Might be my new neighborhood bar. Enjoyed the food, the staff, the Old Fashioned and the Peroni beer
The food was absolutely fantastic. We all enjoyed a different dinner, all equally well prepared. Addi gave impeccable service! The next time through we will be back. My Panzoritti was fantastic, the carbonara was fell prepared as was the mostaccoli.
Stopped by for evening. Food did not go down well. Calamari was below restaurant grade.
I haven't eaten yet, I tried to go yesterday but it was closed for holidays. I was only at the bar and the waitress was very friendly. I'll have dinner sometime.

Authentic Italian from a family from Sicily (I think). Great people! Great food! And VERY ACCOMMODATING FOR a person in our party with limited mobility!

We've gotten pizza several times from here and it's FANTASTIC!! Recently we ordered catering food for my son's first birthday and they went above and beyone for us. We got an extra tray of food AND Lydia made us a little Italian goodie bag for us to celebrate our sons birthday. Went above and beyond! Makes me feel like family. Little does she know that my husband's family is Italian too! We will definitely containers supporting Marios! BTW, the catered food was delicious!
There's absolutely no other place in Dubuque that you can eat at that has this quality of authentic, delish food and get the service we got tonight. Our waiter was absolutely off the charts excellent. He literally could not have done anything any better than he did tonight. We eat out 2-3x a week, and I used 2 B a waitress for 8-9 years when I was younger. Our waiter tonight was totally the very best we've ever had in our 30+ years of eating out. All of our food was beyond delicious. It was basically a perfect meal from start 2 finish!!
This has become my go to place here in Dubuque Iowa. From the family friendly atmosphere and all the wonderful employees to the best family owned Italian restaurant I have ever had the privilege of dining in, and trust me, I have had more than my fair share of Italian food. From my home state of Tennessee and my second home state of Georgia, to my new home state of almost 5 years now of Iowa. Plus all the other many places I have been. I could go on and on about all the wonderful dishes, homemade soups, homemade desserts, the pasta and pizza , you get the point. But of course my favorite bartender Ms. Bobbie who seems to know everyone in town. My favorite homemade clam chowder ( New England or manhattan) on Fridays. You have to stop by , sit at the bar and say Scott and Michelle recommend this place. I hope you enjoy as I always do!!!
Loved our trip to Dubuque Iowa, This restaurant was fantastic and had an amazing selection of food I highly recommend all of it and the people were quite nice.
Dined with a large group in their private room downstairs, the waitstaff was attentive and excellent and the atmosphere was very pleasant.
Aiden Heitz was the BEST dish washer!! Would come here every day if I knew I could see him! Great food too
Best food!! Great service!! My husband broke tradition and had the catfish and it was amazing!! Friendly staff and amazing food! I love the small town vibe! Get the pizza bread with cheese!! It's awesome!
We had a great experience with Mario’s - the food and service was too notch! Max did a great job checking in with us. The food was really yummy. We had the fried ravioli, salad and a calzone. So so good - we will be back!
